A tragic event unfolded in Para village, located within the Jarapada police jurisdiction of Angul district, where a mother was brutally killed by her younger son during a dispute late Sunday night. The victim, identified as Shantilata, was married to Damodar Pendui. Following the incident, her sister filed a complaint at the Jarapada police station on Monday, prompting authorities to register a case. After conducting a post-mortem, the body was returned to the family for final rites.
The accused, Rathi, has been apprehended and is expected to face court proceedings soon, according to police reports. The altercation escalated when Rathi, in a fit of rage, grabbed a stick and struck his mother on the head, causing severe injuries. Shantilata began to bleed profusely and lost consciousness, collapsing on the ground. Rathi quickly transported her to the district headquarters hospital in Angul, but medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival.
